A sample of tact - and friendship

I recently had a girlfriend come to visit me for the weekend.  She showed up and her hair looked kind of like Gwyneth Paltrow's. You know: straight, no body, like it really needed some help. This is a woman who used to have lovely hair.  Thick, dark, full of body.  So I, being the consummate  tact-monger that I am, said "Are you OK?   Do you have thyroid problems?"  She looked at me oddly and asked me what I was talking about.

Now THIS is the mark of someone who spends a little too much time around medical conditions.  I said "well, I know that having hair that lacks body is a big indicator of thyroid disease.  Have you had yours checked?"

As background, let me say that I know five women who suffer from Hashimoto's Disease.  Okay, maybe I'm a dork, too.

Well, my friend looked at me and told me that she'd recently paid about $700 for the new japanese procedure that straightens your hair.  Ahem.  Luckily, she's still talking to me.
